minlit is an academic paper discovery tool. We keep data collection minimal and only store what is necessary to provide our service. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we handle it.
What we collect
Account information. When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name. We use these to create your profile and identify your account.
Saved papers. Papers you save to your library are stored in our database, including title, authors, abstract, venue, and citation count.
Usage events. We record actions like paper views, searches, and tab changes to improve recommendations and understand how the app is used. Events are linked to your account if you are signed in; otherwise, they are stored locally in your browser for the current session only.
Local storage. We store preferences, cached data, and session information in your browser's local storage. This includes recent searches and feed cache.
How we use your data
Your data is used to:
- Personalize your daily paper feed
- Generate recommendations based on your reading history
- Maintain your saved papers and collections
- Improve the service through aggregated usage analytics
- Diagnose errors and fix bugs
Third-party services
minlit relies on the following external services:
- Supabase
- Authentication, database, and serverless functions
- Semantic Scholar
- Paper search, metadata, and recommendations
- OAuth sign-in
- Sentry
- Error tracking in production
Each service has its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them. We do not sell or share your personal data with any third party for advertising purposes.
Data security
All user data is protected by row-level security policies in our database, ensuring you can only access your own data. Authentication is handled through secure JWT tokens. We do not store passwords — sign-in is delegated to Google via Supabase Auth.
Your rights
You can:
- Delete your saved papers and collections at any time
- Request deletion of your account and all associated data
- Clear local storage through your browser settings
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the date at the top of this page. Continued use of minlit after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
